Remembering Prince on the 10th Anniversary of His Passing
Ten years after Prince’s passing, we remember the legend, his connection to Toronto, recording at Metalworks Studios, and a newly released song from his legendary vault.
Ten years ago, we went from purple to a dull shade, as the
The man, the myth, the legend—the Prince of Pop
passed away. Not only to the musical world, but to the whole world, what a loss, as he was only 57. 🎶💜
If you grew up in the 80s, you knew him and heard his music on the radio or at dance clubs. If you didn't, you still hear his music being streamed, as they do in this day and age.
Danna Bananas used to sell this puzzle.

As Prince played in Toronto many times over the years, I would have loved to be at one of his shows. He had a genuine love for the city.
Prince had a particularly strong connection to Toronto because in the early and mid-2000s he was married to a Torontonian, which led to him spending considerable time in the city. He even recorded his Musicology album partly at Mississauga's Metalworks Studios during that period.

Prince once told the Canadian Press, “I love Toronto,” praising it as “cosmopolitan” and calling it “a real melting pot in every sense of the word.”

He has many hit songs (Purple Rain, 1999, Raspberry Beret, Let's Go Crazy, etc.). One of my favourite songs is that Raspberry song, and so many more.
Today a new song was released from his legendary vault.
The song is called “With This Tear.” Prince originally recorded it in November 1991 at Paisley Park, handling all the production, arrangement, composition, and instrumentation himself. Though he initially intended the song for Jevetta Steele, it was later offered to Céline Dion, who recorded her own version in 1992.

According to Céline Dion's website, Prince heard Beauty and the Beast on the radio and was inspired to write a song for her.

The newly released version is a stripped-down, piano-heavy ballad, mixed and mastered by former Prince engineer Chris James. It's quieter, more intimate, and unmistakably Prince.

Céline Dion responded by saying:
“With This Tear was a gift from Prince that I will always treasure. I have carried this song with me for so many years. To now hear his version, shared for the very first time, feels truly special.”

The release also marks the beginning of a broader initiative to release previously unheard material tied to a shelved album project scheduled for later in 2026.
